A nine-day marathon of unabated tastings, beer-pairing dinners, educational events and “tap takeovers” from Santa Cruz to Santa Rosa kickoff this Friday night with a sold out opening gala at Fort Mason: It’s time for San Francisco Beer Week, and Auburn Alehouse Brewmaster Brian Ford and his team will be there in full force, participating in eight events across the region.
“The Bay Area has been so good to us over the years and San Francisco Beer Week is a great opportunity to meet the people who have given us so much support,” Brian said. “Plus, this is the oldest and one of the best attended craft beer events in the entire state.”
Indeed, some 82 breweries (all based in Northern California) will be pouring their finest craft beer at the Fort Mason Gala, a tasting that will host more than 3,000 thirsty fans. Over the course of nine days, more than 600 events are scheduled across the Bay Area. For the full schedule—from February 6 to 15—go to the SF Beer Week website, www.sfbeerweek.org/schedule. Then search “Auburn Alehouse” for information about events in which the brewery is participating.
This extravaganza is sponsored by the San Francisco Brewers Guild, an alliance of 19 breweries in The City. Formed in 2004, the organization’s goal is to “restore and preserve San Francisco’s brewing heritage and unite those who make local beer with those who love it.” An admirable agenda, indeed.
San Francisco Beer Week isn’t just about breweries. It’s about showcasing breweries, of course, but it also shines a bright light on beercentric restaurants and retailers that will be hosting many of the scheduled functions.
“This is the fourth year we have participated in SF Beer Week,” said Brian. “With roughly 100 accounts in the Bay Area, this is a hotbed of Auburn Alehouse fans.”
Many of those folks will likely be in attendance at the closing event on February 15, from 4 to 8 p.m.: the 27th anniversary party of industry publication Celebrator Beer News at the Trumer Brauerel Brewery in Berkeley. The Auburn Alehouse will be one of 30 breweries pouring at this fundraiser for the California Craft Brewers Association. Tickets are $60 in advance and available through a link on the SF Beer Week site.
